Momin has used poetry since childhood. Initially, Shah Naseer used to show his word, then he refused to reform and began to rely on his intelligence. In his youth, he was one of the handsome, cheerful men of the city. The youth passed away in love and affection.
The word of the period is immersed in a very lovable color. But later he had pledged allegiance to Syed Shaheed Ahmad Barelvi and after all these occupations, he took the path of piety and did not speak against Sunnah after that.
Being the head of the family, the Momin did not have to do any other business. He also adopted medicine only for the benefit of the people. He did not face the economic and social fluctuations that preceded the other ideologies of the period. He had lived all his life with a degree of dignity, dignity, and satisfaction. He did not work in any court, nor did he write in praise of a king or nawab. The Nawab of Tonk wanted to call them a gift, but they refused. Similarly, a Maharaja Kapoor Thala called him to the Mulk-ul-shaura in his court for a very reasonable salary, but when the Momin learned that the singers of this court had a salary, they rejected it with contempt. ۔ Delhi College professor also refused because he had to move away from homeland which he did not approve of.
Most critics of the poetical position of the Momin agree that he had the same power over poetry and lyrics. He does not reach the point of bargaining and tasting, but there is no doubt that he is one of the few good Urdu poets. He is a partner of Diya Shankar Naseem and Mirza Shauk, but the poetical greatness of the Momin depends on his lyrics. As a lyricist, the Momin has made Urdu lyrics unique in the lyrics and other essays. Distinguish. Momin's lyrics can be said to be better spokespersons of arrogance, euphemism, sarcasm, and humor.
Momin is known for his Persianized style and the beautiful use of his 'takhallus'. According to legend, Mirza Ghalib (his contemporary and a rival) offered Momin his entire diwan (collection of poetry) in exchange for a particular verse of Momin.
tm mery pass hoty ho goyaa
jb koi dosra nahin hota........
However, most modern poets believe this claim as an ‘exaggeration’ which the poet commonly indulged in at that time. This exaggeration was usually done to emphasize something.
asar us ko Zara nahin hota
ranj rahat-faza nahinn hota
bevafa kahne k shikayat hai
to bhi vada-vafa nahi hotā
zikr-e-aghyar se hua ma.alum
harf-e-naseh bura nahin hota
kis ko hai zauq-e-talḳh-kami lek
jang bin kuchh maza nahin hota
tum hamare kisi tarah na hue
varna duniya men kya nahin hota
us ne kya jaane kya kiya le kar
dil kisi kaam ka nahin hota
imtihan kijiye mira jab tak
shauq zor-azma nahin hota
ek dushman ki charḳh hai na rahe
tujh se ye ai dua nahin hota
aah tul-e-amal hai roz-fuzun
garche ik mudda.a nahin hota
tum mire paas hote ho goya
jab koi dusra nahin hota
hal-e-dil yaar ko likhun kyunkar
haath dil se juda nahin hota
rahm bar-ḳhasm-e-jan-e-ghair na ho
sab ka dil ek sa nahin hota
daman us ka jo hai daraz to ho
dast-e-ashiq rasa nahin hota
chara-e-dil siva e sabr nahin
so tumhare siva nahin hota
kyuun sune arz-e-muztar ai 'momin'
sanam aḳhir ḳhuda nahin hota
